Georgia gives the green light for Starlink services throughout Eastern Europe

Posted on July 26, 2022

34 nations are covered by the Starlink (SpaceX) constellation of satellites, which is run and maintained by SpaceX. Global coverage is its goal. In 2019, SpaceX began launching Starlink satellites. Starlink, a network of more than 2,500 mass-produced tiny satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), connects to specific ground transceivers as of July 2022. By May 2022, Starlink had more than 400,000 customers who had access to the internet.

The latest nation to authorize SpaceX’s Starlink broadband constellation is Georgia, which did so on July 14. Following a meeting with regulatory authorities at the close of June, Starlink submitted a request for authorization to offer services in Georgia on July 8.

According to a translation provided by ComCom, “Starlink is particularly vital and fascinating in hilly locations as well as in villages lacking broadband internet service.” “After the launch of Starlink, everybody in all such geographic locations will have access to high-speed Internet.”

The majority of Georgia, with the exception of some areas close to Georgia’s shared northern border with Russia, should have access to Starlink by the close of the year, as per the company’s availability map.

Afghanistan, North Korea, Syria, China, Iran, Venezuela, Belarus, Cuba, and Russia are a few of the nations on the globe that do not have any immediate plans for Starlink services. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, claims that Starlink served approximately 500,000 people as of the last week of May and is accessible in more than 30 more nations.

The Philippines, which became the first nation in Southeast Asia to authorize Starlink on May 26, followed quickly behind Mozambique and Nigeria in Africa and the approval of Georgia. According to Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, Starlink was initially scheduled to begin operations in the Philippines before ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s six-year tenure came to an end on June 30.

Lopez claimed that a gateway’s development in the nation had been postponed. The Philippines will be able to use services starting in the 4th quarter of 2022, according to the Starlink availability map.

Astronomer and spaceflight commentator Jonathan McDowell claims that SpaceX has already launched over 2,800 Starlink satellites to increase the low Earth constellation’s global coverage. On July 10, a Falcon 9 carried out the most recent launch of 46 satellites. They are the first of a brand-new layer of 348 polar-orbiting satellites for the Starlink network that will enhance coverage at high latitudes. From Fly Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station facility based in Florida, SpaceX is scheduled to launch its upcoming dedicated Starlink mission on July 17.
